We grow plants for gardens. Gardens are places for private contemplation and also places to enjoy the company of others. They are a way to express a personal design vision of the environment through plants and the wildlife those plants invite to our outdoor living spaces. In gardens we can connect directly with nature, and through gardens we can share nature with others. They empower us to make beauty in the world through composition and design, and also provide satisfaction to our curiosity through experimentation. They are an opportunity for self-care and care for the environment. As much as gardens are a place, they are a process for us to grow and learn and experience connection with and service to the natural world.

We grow plants for wildlife. Modern landscape management practices have created a difficult place for wildlife to exist, let alone thrive. The drive for conformity has oftentimes lead to a sterilization of human-created landscapes to the coarse elements of lawn, mulch, hardscape and the occasional tree or shrub. Many plants in the suburban landscape are chosen for their “low maintenance” features, which often mean they provide little or no ecological service or benefit to native wildlife or the environment. Other plants are sprayed with pesticides, either in the nursery, retail center or in the home landscape, reducing or removing the ability of the plant to support wildlife.

Our plants are grown with the specific intent to support wildlife through the selection of ecologically-beneficial regional plants, and with a no-pesticide policy.

We grow plants for the environment. Our world is changing – development, pollution and climate change are pressures not only to humanity, but the natural systems we take for granted and have built our homes and communities in. We approach the challenges of these pressures with hope and with the promotion of a gardening approach to restore ecological function and resiliency to the landscape. We grow plants which have developed in our region and are adapted to the soils and climate of our area, reducing the need for harmful, resource-intensive conventional maintenance practices. We grow plants which directly benefit local wildlife and are, in turn, served by wildlife. Every plant you grow has the ability to improve the environment, and the plants we grow have been selected to maximize environmental benefits.
